Hosting a Summer Buffet

Summer Buffet Tips and Ideas

With summer fast approaching, the time for hosting and entertaining is creeping upon us. With barbecues being the main attraction, summer is a time our stomachs definitely look forward too! Despite the divergence of the British weather, summer is a time to gather with friends and family whether it’s a simple family gathering, a wedding, a charity, a birthday party or any other special occasion there is a huge demand for trendy food. Whether it be a summer BBQ, a hot or cold finger buffet, there are a number of ways to accomplish an appealing spread rather than piling a range of different foods and flavours that don’t complement each other.

Of course summer is a time everyone wants to shed those winter pounds, so a healthy summer buffet is always a must. We’ve created an outline of our top summer buffets, after all no one wants to overeat on a hot summer’s day.

Pulled Meats

One of the best food trends over the past couple of summers have been pulled meats, which are ideal for summer events. Your guests may not be in the mood for a huge burger or an impressive hot dog but by offering pulled meats you can give a lighter alternative. As we mentioned previously no one wants to overeat on a hot day, so offering pulled meats gives your guests the flexibility.

Shake Up Your Salad Bar

On a hot day there is nothing better than a flavoursome salad, but why not change it up with something completely different. Try including a berry and feta salad this intense flavour will give your guests a treat. Make your salads instagram worthy with beautiful, colourful layers.

Fruit Sculptures

Fruit is a fantastic addition to add to any buffet, you can create any display you like – why not create a mesmerising flower display using grapes on skewers as the stem and then by adding a range of melons, pineapples and strawberries as petals. Add blueberries or raspberries as an injection of colour for the middle of your flower.

Infused Water

With the summer heat your guests will need to be hydrated regularly, so why not add a special twist to your water and ice by infusing it with fruit. For a heavenly refreshing drink try adding cucumber or add strawberries for a more sweet flavour.

Lighter Desserts

On a hot day it’s always best to opt for lighter desserts with delicate flavours to avoid overpowering your guests. Replace ice cream with frozen yoghurt or try offering a fruit salad. If you guests have a more sweet tooth, cheesecake is a great alternative to a heavy chocolate cake.
